This service offers real-time lightning notifications to your mobile device, e-mail or fax as soon as lightning strikes within your coverage range. You have the flexibility to customize the distance rings of each zone to maximize your preparedness depending on the distance to lighting strikes. These three zones cover “Detected”, “Alert” and “Warning” levels. You can customize the distance of each alert zone, but default alerting is as follows:
1. Lightning Detected: Lightning strikes between 20 to 30 miles (user definable distance)
2. Lightning Alert!: Lighting strikes between 10 to 20 miles away (again, user definable range)
3. Lighting Warning!: Sent when lightning strikes closer than 10 miles to your specified location. (once again, this is a completely customizable distance)
Our lightning system relies on the United States Precision Lightning Network with accuracy of 250 meters or better. This service is a MUST-HAVE for any personal or business severe weather action plan. Here are some examples of the alert text that is delivered when strikes occur:
1.LIGHTNING DETECTED: On March 23, 2008 at 12:00:00 AM EDT lightning was detected 23.8 miles NNE of Jim's Water Park. Alert sent @ 12:01:01 am EDT
2. LIGHTNING ALERT: On March 31, 2008 at 10:15:25 PM EDT lightning was detected 12.2 miles NNE of Disneyland. Alert sent @ 10:16:30 PM EDT
3. LIGHTNING WARNING: On March 23, 2008 at 1:14:22 PM EDT lightning was detected 4.3 miles W of the Allen County Baseball Park. Alert sent @ 1:15:45 PM EDT
